AI Is About Average
AI is built from what already exists. It recognises patterns, combines references and produces plausible results at incredible speed. But because it works through patterns and probability, it naturally leans towards what is familiar and likely to work.
That’s where humans remain essential.
Great creative work has never come from the first answer. Artists, designers, architects and filmmakers iterate, remix, reject and push ideas until something unexpected emerges. Andy Warhol understood this early: taking something familiar, remixing it and giving it a new context can turn the ordinary into art.

AI makes that creative process dramatically faster. We can generate, compare and explore countless directions in the time it used to take to develop one.
But AI doesn’t know which direction is worth pursuing. Someone still has to recognise the idea, shape it and say: this one.

From Star Trek to Reality
Most of us still know Star Trek – a world where you could simply talk to the computer and make things happen. No interfaces, no menus. Just an idea expressed in words.
The Holodeck was the real mind-blower. Back then, the idea of stepping into a fully immersive, interactive world felt absolutely insane.
You could describe a place, a situation, a world and the computer would turn that description into an "real" environment you could actually step into. Nature, architecture, entire realities generated on demand.
The interface is language. Creation is becoming conversational.
The future we imagined is already happening: we talk to computers, explore ideas in real time and turn words into images, prototypes and entire realities. Give the Hermes Agent a task and see what it comes back with, especially when you let it work with the web data and digital media. It’s pretty insane.
But the computer is still not the crew. Great products and artwork still need people with good taste, vision, intuition and a sense of meaning.
What is changing is the distance between imagination and reality. We can describe what we imagine in natural language and reach a digital reality at warp speed.
The computer can build the world. We still decide what world is worth building to beat average.
